Escuela Bolivia

Parent education Classes in Spanish.

Escuela Bolivia was established in 1998 by a group of Bolivian parents in partnership with Marcelo Perez Monasterios, Ambassador of Bolivia, with the support of Arlington Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Robert Smith. Bolivian parents wanted their children to understand Bolivia's rich culture and continue learning Spanish. The Saturday program became a remarkable success, embraced by the Bolivian Community. It became a model for Arlington’s Saturday Mongolian School.

To finance Escuela Bolivia, we established a 501(c)3 organization led by a Board of Directors. After Ambassador Perez Monasterios returned to Bolivia, I became the chair of the Board for about 8 years. Escuela Bolivia offered English classes for parents, Quechua classes, and Leadership training opportunities to Latino parents in the Arlington Public Schools. After I was elected School Board member in 2008, I resigned from the Escuela Bolivia Board.

After I left the board, the organization changed and became more focused on the advancement of the institution. In 2010 the name was changed to Edu-Futuro. This organization grew, and serves Latino students and parents in additional Northern Virginia counties. It eliminated the Saturday Escuela Bolivia program and focuses its services elsewhere.
