Project Family
Parent education Classes in Spanish.
Project Family / Proyecto Familia was initiated by Beatriz Manrique in Venezuela under the Ministry of the Development of Intelligence led by Luis Alberto Machado. As president of The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) council 4606 I invited Dr. Manrique to provide training to Arlington County Department of Human Services. Dr. Manrique gave LULAC permission to reproduce their exceptional materials and we established a partnership with Arlington County.
Project Family’s mission was to offer services to parents and other early-childhood caregivers, focusing on the stages of child development including information on pre-natal as well as other stages of development. The workshops for parents with their children were offered by a Spanish speaking facilitator who worked with Latino Families at community centers and schools.
I consider the implementation of Project Family is one of the most important milestones of my personal advocacy for and on behalf of immigrants.
